Each year artists are invited to submit works of art for the publication of our upcoming Multifaith Calendar.
The Multifaith Action Society would like to extend a gracious note of thanks to all artists who submitted
pieces for the Multifaith Calendar 2010: Cherishing Earth’s Bounty.
We are excited to announce that The Multifaith Calendar will be celebrating its 25th anniversary with the

Calgary’s Second PechaKucha Night is Today

Just got word of this, so I apologize for the last minute post, but I thought it was just too neat an event not to write about! PechaKucha is an international meetup for all sorts of people, architects, planners, and artists, etc who come together to talk about their work. Tonight’s theme is “How We Live Together” and revolves around how the decisions we make today, affect our cities in the years to follow.

The New Gallery On The Move!

As of December 1st, The New Gallery, one of Calgary’s (and Canada’s) longest operating artist-run centres, is changing locations!  After three years of offering fantastic art at Eau Claire Market, TNG is taking up residence  in a 1,200 square foot exhibition space on the top floor at Art Central on Centre Street and 7th Avenue SW.

2009 Grey Cup Festival: ENMAX Illuminate Calgary

Rumour has it that there is some sort of sporting event called the Grey Cup hitting Calgary this weekend?!
As part of the celebration, on November 27th and 28th, Stephen Avenue Mall (from Epcor Centre to 2nd Street SW) will be lit up with a fantastical display of light installations with some interactive elements. ENMAX Illuminate Calgary will showcase the extraordinary talents of Calgary-based artists and designers.

POST Exhibit: Peep Show

POST exhibit is presenting Peep Show, an installation by Gail Scheuring.
Drawing upon references to women in art history, Minimalism, Surrealism and voyeurism; this installation piece speaks to sexuality and consumer culture in a “feminized” space. Inspired by the artists Jessica Stockholder and Peter Halley, as well as images of sex shops, the colors represent an interruption of space and have a distinct psychological effect upon the viewer. The bright hues represent the garishness of artificial light seen in store fluorescent or “technological” light.

Elizabeth Barnes’ new exhibition Juice is opening November 28th, 2009 and will run until December 23rd.
Born and educated in the United States, Barnes currently lives in Vancouver. Her collections can be found throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Barnes’ work is heavily influenced by science and technology, but it’s the organicness that still exists that’s intriguing. Her works are the perfect utopia: a place where technology and nature seem to not only be in balance, but enhance each other.
