TrépanierBaer is honoured to present the first Canadian exhibition, together, of the works of Mr. Stephan Balkenhol and of Mr. Evan Penny, two of the most important sculptors of their generation. Balkenhol and Penny are figurative sculptors with personal visions that have placed them at the forefront of the discourse surrounding representation and the problem of the figure. Their working methods and strategies – from a material and conceptual point of view – are different: it is within this gap that separates them that we expect the viewer to find common ground and come to a more insightful understanding of contemporary sculpture and its possibilities.
