POST exhibit is presenting Peep Show, an installation by Gail Scheuring.
Drawing upon references to women in art history, Minimalism, Surrealism and voyeurism; this installation piece speaks to sexuality and consumer culture in a “feminized” space. Inspired by the artists Jessica Stockholder and Peter Halley, as well as images of sex shops, the colors represent an interruption of space and have a distinct psychological effect upon the viewer. The bright hues represent the garishness of artificial light seen in store fluorescent or “technological” light.
Although this installation is devoid of the female form, it still takes on a feminized space through the inclusion of what can be interpreted as being domestic “feminized” objects.
