This post is a bit last minute as we’ve been working through a number of technical difficulties at Calgary Art Blog.
Anyways, without further ado, there is a great full-day workshop being held this weekend with artist R. Duane Hendricks called Painting with Pastels.
In the workshop, you’ll learn value and colour choices, how to use a variety of painting surfaces, in what sequence to paint and much more.
From R. Duane Hendricks on pastel painting:
Pastel is the purest form of painting and, when properly framed and protected, will last for centuries. It is the medium of choice for many of the world’s finest artists.
Some art experience by participants is requested for this workshop, however, new and experienced pastellists are welcome. A materials list will be available when you register and some materials will be supplied at an extra cost.
A look at some of Hendrick’s work show just how vibrant and beautiful pastel paintings can be. Not a medium that is generally seen as often in galleries and exhibits, this could be a great opportunity for you to learn to, and try your hand at, using pastels. It could just be the median you’ve been waiting for!
There isn’t a great deal of time left before the workshop so if you’re interested, reserve your spot as soon as possible.

Hello..
I have never worked with pastels before and never explored the medium as such.. Attending a workshop would get me started and put me on right track.. I once attended a art class on oil paintings and it was such a learning and creative experience..
