Workshop Description
Linda Darty, Enamel Work
A variety of innovative enameling processes will be introduced, and students will be able to request demonstrations of those which are most interesting to the group. A basic introduction to enameling will be presented which includes preparation of enamel, working with opaque and transparent colors, dry sifting and wet inlaying techniques. Students will experiment with liquid enamels, sifted stenciled and graffito techniques, foils, water color and painting enamels, decal papers, torch and kiln firing. Simple approaches to cloissone, champleve, as well as metal fabrication and finishing techniques (including cold connections and soldering before, during and after enameling) will be discussed. Students should come with open minds and ideas about how they would like to use enamel in their own work. The discussion will focus on ways that enamel can be used experimentally, and expressively in personal work.
