This exhibition is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy beautiful works of art on both canvas and in song. Steve Coffey is a Western Canadian artist and musician whose depiction of the prairies captures the essence of a land defined by its harsh beauty.

Quoted from the Kensington Fine Art Gallery:

It’s hard to clearly articulate the images and memories in our heads. You can describe a clothesline swaying in the breeze, but that’s just one detail among many. To convey the whole image – the mood of the world at that moment in time, its stark beauty and strength, the colours, taste, even the smell – takes more than just raw prose. Deep down, that’s what art really is – showing, telling, describing whole moments in time and space.

Steve Coffey’s art presents the “memory polaroids” of the prairies on the canvas, and through song. Both are sensual paths to the same beautiful windswept plains. Experienced together, they tell the whole story. Literally.

Artist’s quote:

This particular body of work is a continuation of all the memory Polaroid’s floating about my head and my need to exercise them to canvas and song.
I have very little to say beyond that as the work itself remains my chosen language and is required to speak for itself.
Of course without you, the viewer/listener, there would be no one to receive these transmissions and attempt interpretation. So I thank you.

Steve Coffey
